An
Evening with the Arts
Anzar
High School was the host for an Evening with the Arts on Wednesday
May 22. It was a very entertaining evening beginning with
a violin group recital, followed by the youth orchestra which
played a toe-tapping rendition of the 1950s hit "Green
Door." In the theater, students recited their poems written
for this occasion, this recital was hosted by Tom Shea. Some
of the poems recited were which were published in the Anzar
Literary Magazine, Reflections
/Relexiones. A student Art Exhibit was displayed in
the Library hosted by Jackie Kurt. Vignettes were performed
in the Theater by individuals and in groups of two or more.
One performance right after another for about one hour, the
students appeared surprised and excited at the applause given
in appreciation for their talent and individual performances.
One comedy vignette which stood out was "He said, she
said". A monologue standout portrayed a young woman with
anorexia, addressing a self help group in which she denies
having the disease. A young man delivered his monologue while
moving to hip-hop style dance movements, this unique delivery
was entertaining because his movements were made without the
benefit of audible music or a beat.
A whole
evening of entertainment and the price of admission was free.
Anzar High School has a pool of talent that has been stimulated
to flourish and blossom. More opportunities should be created
to showcase this talent and provide the community with more
evenings of entertainment.
